About Nataraja:
The Nataraja statue portrays Shiva, a revered Hindu deity, in his renowned cosmic dance form known as Nataraja, which translates to "Lord of the Dance" in Sanskrit.
In this Nataraja sculpture, Shiva's dance symbolizes the eternal cycle of creation and destruction within the universe. He is depicted as the source of all movement in the cosmos, with his doomsday dance, represented by an arch of flames, marking the dissolution of the universe.
The various gestures of the dance illustrate Shiva’s five activities (panchakritya): creation (represented by the drum), protection (indicated by the "fear-not" hand gesture), destruction (symbolized by fire), embodiment (with one foot planted on the ground), and release (shown by the raised foot).
